France control the first half
France started the match on the front foot. They enjoyed most of the possession and pushed Sweden deep into their own half. At the same time, Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise, and Bradley Barcola attacked from every angle.
Sweden found it difficult to build attacks. Instead, they spent most of the first half defending. Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres received very little service.
Even so, goalkeeper Jacob Zetterström kept Sweden in the game. He made several excellent saves. In addition, the goalpost denied France twice. Mbappé also had one goal ruled out for offside.
France kept attacking. Finally, their pressure paid off.
Mbappé breaks the deadlock
Just before halftime, France found the breakthrough.
In the 45th minute, Dembélé played a smart pass into the box. Mbappé controlled the ball with ease. Then, he placed a low shot into the far corner.
The goal gave France a deserved 1-0 lead. It also rewarded their strong first-half performance.
More importantly, France entered the break with full control of the match.

Barcola doubles the lead
France did not slow down after halftime.
Instead, they attacked even more aggressively. As a result, Sweden struggled to keep up.
In the 53rd minute, Michael Olise delivered another excellent pass. Bradley Barcola met it with a powerful finish to make it 2-0.
The goal gave France complete control.
Olise did not score. However, he played an important role throughout the game. He created several chances and finished with two assists.

Mbappé seals the victory
France continued to dominate possession.
Meanwhile, Sweden became more open as they searched for a goal. That created even more space for the French attack.
In the 74th minute, Mbappé struck again. France moved the ball quickly through midfield before finding their captain inside the penalty area. He stayed calm and finished with confidence.
The goal made it 3-0.
It also completed Mbappé’s brace. With six goals, he now shares the lead in the World Cup 2026 Golden Boot race alongside Lionel Messi.

Sweden cannot find an answer
Sweden never recovered after conceding.
They entered the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams. However, France proved too strong.
Isak and Gyökeres rarely threatened the French defense. In contrast, William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano stayed calm throughout the match.
Sweden also struggled in defense. France’s quick passing and movement caused problems all night.
Although Zetterström made several outstanding saves, he could not stop the defeat.
France look ready for a deep run
France continue to impress at World Cup 2026.
Their attack is fast, creative, and full of talent. Mbappé remains the team’s biggest star. However, Dembélé, Barcola, and Olise have also been outstanding.
As a result, France do not depend on one player.
Their defense has also looked solid. Mike Maignan enjoyed another comfortable night behind a well-organized back line.
Therefore, France remain one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Mbappé leads by example
Mbappé once again showed his world-class quality.
He scored twice. He also created space for his teammates with intelligent movement.
Most importantly, he delivered when France needed him.
His six goals place him level with Lionel Messi at the top of the scoring chart. If he keeps this form, he will be a leading favorite to win the Golden Boot.
France face Paraguay next
France will now play Paraguay in the Round of 16.
Paraguay reached this stage after eliminating Germany in a dramatic penalty shootout. Therefore, France cannot take the South American side lightly.
Still, Les Bleus enter the match as favorites.
If their attack continues to play at this level, France will have an excellent chance of reaching the quarterfinals.
