Japan and Sweden drew 1-1 in their final Group F match at the FIFA World Cup 2026. As a result, both teams advanced to the knockout stage. Meanwhile, the Netherlands finished top of the group after beating Tunisia.

Before halftime, Sweden faced a major setback. In the 37th minute, central defender Isak Hien was forced off because of injury.

The move began with Yukinari Sugawara on the right side. He found captain Ritsu Doan, who combined well with Ayase Ueda. Ueda then laid the ball back perfectly.

Afterward, Doan delivered a precise through pass to Daizen Maeda. The forward timed his run perfectly and calmly finished past the Swedish goalkeeper.

Anthony Elanga Scores a Stunning Equalizer

After conceding, Sweden had no choice but to attack.

The Scandinavian side pushed forward and increased the pressure. However, their equalizer came through individual brilliance rather than team play.

In the 62nd minute, Anthony Elanga received the ball on the right wing. He then cut inside before unleashing a brilliant left-footed strike.

The shot flew past Zion Suzuki and into the net. Consequently, Sweden leveled the score at 1-1.

After the equalizer, both teams became more cautious.

Sweden focused on maintaining their defensive shape. Meanwhile, Japan chose not to take unnecessary risks.

Although both sides created a few half-chances, neither team found a winning goal.

Eventually, the referee blew the final whistle, confirming a 1-1 draw.

In the other Group F match, the Netherlands defeated Tunisia 3-1.
