The TFT Set 17.7 patch is now live. Although this update is not a major overhaul, it still brings many important balance changes. Instead of reworking the game, Riot Games focuses on improving weaker champions and traits. At the same time, the developers reduce the strength of several dominant picks from Patch 17.6.
The biggest winners are Talon, Diana, Zoe, Ezreal, and Ancient Armament. Meanwhile, Zed, Chrono (2), and the Family Reunion Augment receive nerfs. As a result, players should see more team compositions in ranked games.
Here is everything you need to know about TFT Set 17.7.

TFT Set 17.7 Buffs Several Underused Champions
The main goal of Patch 17.7 is simple. Riot wants more champions to become viable carries. Therefore, several underused units receive direct buffs.

Riot will buff underutilized carries in this version.
Ancient Armament Gets Huge Improvements
Ancient Armament benefits the most from this patch.
Changes include:
- Armor: 60 → 75
- Magic Resist: 60 → 75
- Mana: 30/90 → 30/70
- Blade Net damage:
- 100 (50 AD + 50 AP) → 150 (75 AD + 75 AP)
These buffs make Ancient Armament much stronger. It survives longer, casts sooner, and deals more damage. Therefore, it should become a top frontline unit in Fast 9 boards.
Ezreal Powers Up Faster
Although Ezreal only received one adjustment, it has a meaningful impact on his scaling.
Time Shot
Drone requirement:
- 8 takedowns → 7 takedowns
Because of this change, Ezreal reaches his power spike one round earlier. Therefore, players can build momentum much faster during the mid game.

Ezreal has been buffed.
Talon Deals More Damage
Talon struggled to compete with other three-cost carries in recent patches. Therefore, Riot has increased his burst damage.
Changes:
- Three-star ability damage:
- 1135 → 1235
- Three-star bonus damage:
- 1000 → 1100
As a result, Talon 3-star should once again become a dangerous late-game carry capable of eliminating priority targets quickly.
Zoe Receives a Damage Buff
Zoe also joins the list of buffed carries.
Star Reversal
Secondary damage:
- 34/51/77 → 36/54/88
Although the numbers are relatively small, they still improve her overall damage output. Moreover, they make Zoe a more reliable option in AP-focused compositions.
Diana Gets Stronger at Three Stars
Diana has also received meaningful improvements.
Changes:
- Three-star Shield:
- 475 → 515
- Orb Damage:
- 145 → 160
Therefore, Diana becomes both harder to eliminate and more capable of carrying reroll compositions into the late game.
Master Yi Casts More Frequently
Master Yi now requires much less mana to use his ability.
- 30/70 → 20/60
As a result, he can cast much more often. In turn, this significantly improves his sustained damage during extended fights.

Master Yi’s energy is decreasing.
Two Five-Cost Champions Gain New Traits
Besides direct champion buffs, Riot has also expanded the trait identities of two legendary units.
Shen Gains the Chrono Trait
New traits:
Bastion • Citadel • Chrono
Because Shen now counts as a Chrono champion, he fits much more naturally into high-level Fast 9 boards. Furthermore, players can activate higher Chrono breakpoints without sacrificing valuable team slots.
Vex Joins Stargazer
Vex has also received an important trait update.
Traits:
- Gloom → Stargazer • Gloom
However, Riot slightly reduced her spell damage to compensate.
Give Me a Hand, Shadow!
- 140/210/1000 → 130/195/1000
Even so, this is still considered a net buff. After all, Vex now fits perfectly into Stargazer compositions, making her far more flexible than before.
Vex has added a new race/lineage.
Zed Receives a Nerf
While many carries were buffed, Zed has been toned down.
Quantum Clone
Bonus clone Health:
- 33% / 45% / 45%
- → 33% / 40% / 40%
Because his clones are now less durable, they will no longer dominate teamfights as consistently as they did in Patch 17.6.
Zed’s clones’ HP has been nerfed.
Trait Changes in TFT Set 17.7
In addition to champion adjustments, Riot has updated several traits to encourage more composition diversity.
Super Beast Becomes Much Stronger
This is arguably the most impactful trait adjustment in the patch.
Previously:
- Treasure unlocked at 6 Super Beasts.
Now:
- Treasure unlocks at 5 Super Beasts.
As a result, Super Beast boards can reach their core power spike much earlier. Consequently, the composition should become much more consistent throughout the game.
Replication Gets a Buff
At the four-unit breakpoint:
- Second ability effectiveness:
- 45% → 50%
Therefore, compositions built around repeated spell casts will deal noticeably more damage.
Outlaw Becomes Stronger in the Late Game
Both higher breakpoints have been improved.
At four units:
- 40% → 45% AD/AP
At five units:
- 55% → 60% AD/AP
As a result, Outlaw compositions gain significantly higher offensive scaling during the late game.
Chrono Is Slightly Weaker Early
At the two-unit breakpoint:
- Allied Attack Speed:
- 15% → 12%
Although this weakens early-game Chrono boards, Shen’s new trait largely compensates for the nerf. Therefore, full Chrono compositions should remain powerful once players reach Level 9.
Augment Changes in TFT Set 17.7
Only one Augment has been adjusted in this patch.
Family Reunion
Immediate gold:
- 3 Gold → 1 Gold
Meanwhile, all remaining rewards stay exactly the same:
- Level 5: Two-star two-cost champion
- Level 7: Thief’s Gloves
- And level 9: Two-star five-cost champion
Therefore, Family Reunion is no longer the overwhelmingly best economic Augment during the early game.
TFT Set 17.7 Meta Analysis
Although TFT Set 17.7 is not a massive balance patch, it should still have a noticeable impact on the overall meta.
First of all, Ancient Armament appears to be the biggest winner. Thanks to its higher defensive stats, lower mana requirement, and much stronger ability damage, it should become a core unit in Fast 9 and legendary-focused compositions.
Meanwhile, Talon, Diana, Zoe, and Ezreal have all received meaningful buffs. As a result, these champions should finally be able to compete with the dominant carries that defined previous patches.
Talon has been buffed to deal significantly more damage.
On the other hand, Zed is no longer as oppressive because his clones are significantly less durable. Likewise, Family Reunion has lost much of its early-game economic advantage, making Augment choices more balanced overall.
Another major winner is Super Beast. Since players only need five units to unlock the treasure reward, the trait can snowball much earlier than before. In addition, Replication and Outlaw both received direct stat increases, giving those compositions a much better chance to return to the competitive meta.
Overall, Riot’s approach in Patch 17.7 is clear. Instead of introducing sweeping changes, the developers are carefully increasing the number of viable strategies. Consequently, players should enjoy a healthier and far more diverse ranked environment.
Final Thoughts
Overall, TFT Set 17.7 focuses on balance rather than dramatic changes. Riot has buffed several forgotten carries, including Talon, Diana, Zoe, Ezreal, and Ancient Armament. At the same time, the developers reduced the power of Zed, Chrono (2), and Family Reunion.
Because of these changes, the ranked meta should become more diverse. Players will have more viable carry options. In addition, Super Beast, Replication, Outlaw, and Fast 9 legendary compositions are expected to rise in popularity.
While this is not the biggest update of Set 17, it should make the game healthier. It also prepares players for the arrival of TFT Set 18.
