Saka stretched the defense with his pace. Gordon also added more energy down the left wing. Because of these changes, England controlled the game for long periods.
DR Congo defended well. However, the pressure kept growing with every attack.

DR Congo earn respect despite defeat
Although DR Congo lost the match, they impressed many football fans.
They defended with great discipline and attacked with confidence. In addition, their quick counterattacks caused England several problems.
Brian Cipenga scored a fine opening goal. Meanwhile, Lionel Mpasi kept his team in the game with several outstanding saves.
Unfortunately for DR Congo, England’s quality eventually made the difference.
Even so, the African side can leave the tournament with pride after an excellent World Cup campaign.
England prepare for a huge clash with Mexico
England will now face Mexico in the World Cup 2026 Round of 16.
The match promises to be one of the biggest games of the tournament.
Mexico arrive after beating Ecuador. Meanwhile, England enter the match with growing confidence after another comeback victory.
However, Tuchel’s side must improve their starts. They have conceded early goals too often during this tournament.
If they defend better from the opening whistle, they will have a stronger chance of reaching the quarter-finals.
England show true championship character
England did not play their best football for the full 90 minutes.
However, they showed resilience, patience, and determination.
Thomas Tuchel made the right tactical decisions. At the same time, Harry Kane once again proved to be England’s biggest match winner.
The Three Lions are now one step closer to their dream of winning the FIFA World Cup 2026.
If Kane continues scoring at this level, England will remain one of the strongest title contenders.
