TFT Patch 17.5b Arrives Fast to Nerf Samira and Balance the Meta Riot Games has moved quickly to address balance issues in Teamfight Tactics. Shortly after the release of Patch 17.5, the developers launched TFT Patch 17.5b.
This small update focuses on one goal. It aims to reduce the power of Samira and several strategies that became too strong. As a result, Riot hopes to create a healthier and more diverse meta.

Samira Dominated the Early 17.5 Meta
Patch 17.5 changed the TFT meta in many ways. Several Fast 9 compositions received nerfs. Because of that, many players switched to reroll strategies and 3-cost carries.
Soon after, champions like Miss Fortune, Ornn, and Urgot became popular choices. They offered stable damage and strong mid-game boards. However, Samira quickly stood out from the rest.
After Riot fixed a bug involving critical strikes, Samira’s performance improved dramatically. She dealt high damage and also provided useful crowd control. As a result, she became a key carry in several top-tier compositions.
Furthermore, Samira worked especially well in Planetary and Dynamic Duo lineups. Therefore, players began seeing the same strategy in many ranked games. Because of her strong performance, Riot decided to act immediately.

Samira Receives Direct Nerfs
The biggest changes in Patch 17.5b target Samira. First, her mana requirement increased from 60 to 65. This means she needs more time before casting her ability. As a result, her damage output becomes less consistent during fights.
In addition, her crowd-control duration was reduced from 1.25 seconds to 1 second. While the change looks small, it gives opponents more time to react. Together, these nerfs lower both her damage and utility.
Even so, Samira should remain a viable carry. She simply won’t dominate games as often as before.
Planetary Trait Also Gets Weaker
Riot did not stop with Samira. The Planetary trait also received a nerf. At the 7 Planetary breakpoint, the bonus effect dropped from 15% to 10%.
As a result, players will gain fewer stats from the trait. This change mainly affects mid and late-game fights. Therefore, Planetary boards should feel less overwhelming than before. The trait remains playable. However, reaching 7 Planetary will no longer guarantee a huge advantage.

Nomad Strategies Take a Hit
Nomad was another strong option in Patch 17.5. Because of that, Riot decided to reduce its power. The bonus Ability Power gained by the Little Legend now drops from 20 to 15 per cast.
In addition, shield values were adjusted. Early and mid-game shields are now weaker. Meanwhile, the highest breakpoint received a small buff. Overall, Nomad boards will scale more slowly than before. Therefore, players must survive longer before reaching full power.
Dynamic Duo Gets a Small Nerf
Dynamic Duo has been a popular Augment in recent weeks. Many players used it with Samira and Ornn to create powerful boards. To reduce its effectiveness, Riot lowered the bonus Health from 500 to 450.
Although this is not a huge change, it makes these boards less durable. As a result, positioning and item choices will become more important.
Giant Serpent Receives a Buff
Patch 17.5b is not only about nerfs. Riot also buffed the Giant Serpent effect from Stargazer. Poison damage increased from 18/35/50% to 25/45/60%.
Because of this change, Giant Serpent may become a stronger win condition. Furthermore, players may discover new compositions built around damage-over-time effects.
Final Thoughts
TFT Patch 17.5b has a clear purpose. First, it reduces Samira’s dominance. Second, it weakens Planetary and Dynamic Duo strategies. Third, it slows down the power growth of Nomad boards.
At the same time, Giant Serpent receives meaningful buffs. As a result, the meta should become more open and diverse.
Of course, players will continue to explore new strategies. However, for now, Patch 17.5b looks like a solid step toward better game balance.
