Kha Y Tran Elise with the Ruinous Emblem is one of the most interesting reroll strategies in TFT Set 18. With the right setup, this 2-cost champion can become a powerful carry with strong damage, high durability, and impressive healing.
The key to this strategy is the Ruinous Emblem. Once Elise equips it, her healing can help increase her damage. As a result, the longer she survives, the stronger she becomes.
However, this is not a composition that you should force every game. Instead, you should play it when you find the right Emblem, several Elise copies, and a strong frontline.

Why Is Ruinous Emblem Elise So Strong?
Normally, Elise does not have the Ruinous trait. However, the Ruinous Emblem allows her to use its powerful effects.
More importantly, Ruinous works extremely well with Elise’s Spider Form. When she transforms, Elise gains more maximum Health. At the same time, her attacks deal additional magic damage and she restores Health during combat.
Even better, her healing can increase her Damage Amp. Therefore, her durability and damage directly support each other.
In simple terms, Elise becomes stronger as the fight continues.
Furthermore, each new cast can increase her Attack Speed. Because of this, Elise can create a powerful cycle. She attacks faster, heals more often, and then gains even more damage.
Most importantly, when an enemy falls below 50% Health, Ruinous damage is doubled. Therefore, Elise can quickly finish off weakened targets.
When Should You Play Ruinous Elise?
The most important rule is simple: do not force this composition too early.
Instead, look for several favorable conditions before committing. For example, Elise Ruinous is worth considering when:
- An early Ruinous Emblem is available.
- Several Elise copies appear during the early game.
- Suitable items for Elise are already secured.
- A strong Vanguard or Juggernaut frontline is already in place.
- An Augment supports rerolling or healing.
If you do not have the Ruinous Emblem, you can still use Elise as a temporary frontline unit. However, you should not sacrifice your entire economy just to force the strategy.
After all, this is a conditional reroll composition. Therefore, knowing when to commit is just as important as knowing how to play it.
How to Play Elise in the Early Game
During the early game, your main goal is to preserve Health and build your economy.
If you find Elise early, keep her copies. At the same time, build a solid frontline with Vanguard or Juggernaut units. This gives your team more time to survive each fight.
However, avoid rolling too much at Level 5. Spending too much Gold early can hurt your economy. As a result, you may lack the resources needed later.
Instead, try to maintain around 50 Gold whenever possible. Then, prepare for the main reroll stage at Level 6.
Meanwhile, Elise does not need to be your complete carry right away. For now, focus on preserving Health and reaching the correct level with a healthy economy.
Slow Roll for 3-Star Elise at Level 6
Level 6 is the most important stage of the Elise Ruinous strategy.
Since Elise costs only 2 Gold, Level 6 gives you a strong chance to find her. Therefore, this is the ideal time to use the slow roll strategy.
Slow rolling means spending only the Gold above your desired interest threshold. This lets you search for Elise while still protecting your economy.
Each round, buy every Elise that appears in your shop. Then, spend the remaining Gold on rolls while keeping your economy stable.
Your main goal is to make 3-star Elise.
Do not rush to Level 7 if Elise still needs many copies. The entire composition relies heavily on her 3-star upgrade. Meanwhile, a 2-star Elise can struggle against powerful 4-cost carries.
Once Elise reaches 3 stars, stop rolling. Then, save Gold and prepare to level up.
Best Items for Elise
After Elise equips the Ruinous Emblem, she only has two regular item slots left. Therefore, each item should have a clear purpose.
Guinsoo’s Rageblade is one of the best choices. Its Attack Speed increases over time. As a result, Elise attacks faster and can make better use of her healing.
For the second item slot, you can choose based on the lobby:
- Titan’s Resolve: Gives Elise more durability and works well in long fights.
- Archangel’s Staff: A good choice when you want more magic damage.
- Crowd Control resistance: Useful against teams with many stun or control effects.
Overall, Elise needs a balance between damage, Attack Speed, and survivability. Therefore, stacking pure damage is not always the best approach.
Elise Ruinous Team Composition
Once Elise reaches 3 stars, you can level up to 7 and complete the main board.
The core composition should focus on Ruinous, Vanguard, and Juggernaut units. Elise acts as the main carry, while your frontline helps her survive longer.
Vanguard units make the frontline tougher. Meanwhile, Juggernauts provide additional durability and help buy time for Elise to transform.
However, you do not always need to chase the highest Ruinous breakpoint. Sometimes, adding another strong frontline unit is much better than adding another Ruinous unit.
After stabilizing at Level 7, you can eventually push toward Level 8. At that point, add a secondary carry or another powerful high-cost unit to improve your late-game board.
How to Position Elise
Positioning is also extremely important for this strategy.
You can place Elise in the frontline, but avoid putting her directly in the center of the enemy’s damage. Another option is to place her slightly to the side.
Ideally, a stronger Vanguard or Juggernaut should stand next to her. That unit can absorb the first wave of damage while Elise waits to cast her ability.
Furthermore, watch for enemy units that can jump into your backline. If necessary, change Elise’s position every round.
This can prevent her from being targeted too early. It can also give her more time to transform and start stacking her power.
Most importantly, never expect Elise to tank the entire enemy team alone. Her healing is powerful. However, she still needs time to activate her full potential.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
There are three major mistakes that players should avoid when using Ruinous Elise.
First, forcing the composition without the Emblem. This is the biggest mistake. Without the Ruinous Emblem, Elise usually cannot reach the same level of carry power.
Second, rolling too early. Spending too much Gold at Level 5 can destroy your economy. Consequently, you may not have enough Gold to slow roll effectively at Level 6.
Third, letting Elise tank alone. Elise needs time to build her power. Therefore, your frontline should share incoming damage and create enough time for her to cast.
In addition, do not blindly chase the highest Ruinous breakpoint. A balanced team with Vanguard and Juggernaut can often perform better.
Conclusion
Ruinous Emblem Elise is a unique reroll strategy in TFT Set 18. With the right conditions, this 2-cost champion can become a surprisingly powerful carry.
Her strength comes from the combination of healing, Attack Speed, durability, and scaling damage. As the fight continues, Elise can become harder to kill while also dealing more damage.
The best way to play the composition is to preserve Health early. Then, maintain your economy and slow roll for 3-star Elise at Level 6.
After Elise reaches 3 stars, level up to 7. From there, add Ruinous, Vanguard, and Juggernaut units to create a stronger frontline.
However, the Ruinous Emblem remains the most important requirement. If you cannot find the Emblem or enough Elise copies, be ready to pivot into another composition.
When the conditions are right, though, Elise Ruinous can turn a simple 2-cost unit into a terrifying late-fight carry in TFT Set 18.
