Teamfight Tactics Patch 17.5 is bringing many important changes. Riot Games has updated champions, traits, items, and Augments. While this is not a major mid-set update, it will still change the meta in several ways.
Because of these changes, some popular team comps may become weaker. Meanwhile, other strategies could become much stronger. Therefore, players should learn the new patch before jumping into ranked games.

Many Champions Receive Buffs
One of the biggest changes in TFT 17.5 is the number of champion buffs. Riot wants more team comps to be viable. As a result, many units have received improvements.
Caitlyn Gets Stronger
Caitlyn now deals more damage with her enhanced Sharpshooter passive. In addition, her N.O.V.A. effect hits low-health targets harder.
Because of this, Caitlyn can be a better secondary carry. She also helps early-game teams keep their win streaks. Therefore, more players may start using her.
Nasus Becomes Tankier
Nasus now gains more health when he transforms.
As a result, he can survive much longer on the front line. This change makes him a stronger tank during both the mid and late game.
Teemo and Veigar Deal More Damage
Teemo and Veigar both received Ability Power buffs.
Because of this, AP team comps are stronger than before. In addition, reroll strategies built around these champions may become more popular.
Other Buffed Champions
Several other units also received buffs:
- Akali
- Bel’Veth
- Mordekaiser
- Fizz
- Kindred
- LeBlanc
- Bard
- Vex
Most of these champions now deal more damage. Meanwhile, Mordekaiser has a stronger shield. As a result, many carry options are now more competitive.
Gwen Receives a Nerf
Unlike most champions, Gwen was nerfed.
Her base attack speed drops from 0.85 to 0.80. Although her skill damage is slightly higher, she attacks more slowly.
Because of this, Gwen may deal less damage over time. Therefore, players may need more attack speed items to keep her strong.
Trait Changes Will Affect the Meta
There are only a few trait changes in Patch 17.5. However, they are very important.
Serpent Seer Gets Weaker
Serpent Seer poison damage has been reduced.
The new values are:
- 3 units: 18% (down from 20%)
- 5 units: 35% (down from 40%)
- 7 units: 50% (down from 60%)
As a result, Serpent Seer teams will deal less damage in long fights. Therefore, they may not dominate the meta like before.
Bell Spirit Gets Adjusted
Bell Spirit also received changes.
The 5-unit bonus health drops from 400 to 350. However, higher breakpoints are stronger.
- 7 units: 450 health
- 10 units: 550 health
Because of this, Riot is encouraging players to aim for higher trait levels.
Radiant Items Have Changed
Patch 17.5 also brings major adjustments to Light items. Several previously dominant choices, including Radiant Red Buff, Radiant Deathblade, Radiant Rabadon’s Deathcap, and Radiant Morellonomicon, have all been toned down.
As a result, these upgraded versions are no longer as overwhelming as they were in earlier patches.
Meanwhile, Riot has strengthened Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Quicksilver, and Protector’s Vow in their enhanced forms. Because of these buffs, attack-speed carries and durable frontliners may gain more value. Consequently, players could see greater item variety across the meta.

Super Beast Items Are Better
Many Super Beast items were buffed.
Rocket Gauntlet now deals more damage. Guiding Charm grants more Ability Power. Burning Shortbow and Evolved Rock Spear also received stronger stats.
In addition, Oblivion now stores more damage and restores more mana.
Because of these buffs, players may discover new carry setups and team comps.

Augments Have Been Rebalanced
Riot also changed many Augments.
Buffed Augments
These Augments are stronger now:
- Built Different Friends
- Healing Orb I
- Healing Orb II
- U.R.F.
- Total Victory
As a result, players can gain more healing, faster leveling, and stronger tempo.

Nerfed Economy Augments
Several economy Augments are weaker:
- Toward the Finale
- Risky Play
- Protection Package
- Finisher+
- Savings Account
- Experience Discount
Because of this, players will earn less free gold and XP than before.

Final Thoughts
TFT Patch 17.5 is a balance-focused update. It does not completely change the game. However, it will create a new meta.
Serpent Seer is weaker. Bell Spirit has changed. Many champions received buffs. At the same time, several Radiant Items and Augments were adjusted.
Therefore, players who learn the patch early will have an advantage. If you want to climb ranked quickly, now is the perfect time to understand the biggest TFT 17.5 changes.
