JDG vs IG: A Do-or-Die Battle for Worlds 2026
The JDG vs IG series was played as a Best-of-5 at the LPL 2026 Regional Finals. More importantly, it was the lower-bracket final. Therefore, there was no room for another mistake.
IG entered the series after losing 1-3 to Top Esports in the upper bracket. Because of that, Rookie and his teammates needed one final win to stay alive.
JDG also had plenty to fight for. The team had just defeated Team WE 3-1. Consequently, JDG were only one series away from reaching Worlds.
However, only one team could claim the final ticket. From the opening game, IG looked ready for the challenge.
Game 1: JiaQi and Rookie Put IG Ahead
In Game 1, JDG built a team focused on team fights and control. IG, however, answered with a more mobile setup. JiaQi played Tristana, while Rookie picked Syndra. Together, they gave IG strong damage in both lane fights and late-game battles.
Meanwhile, IG focused heavily on the major objectives. They repeatedly fought around dragons and Baron. JiaQi then used Tristana’s damage to break through JDG’s frontline. At the same time, Rookie controlled the middle of the map with Syndra.
As a result, JDG struggled to find a safe way into team fights. After more than 33 minutes, IG finally closed out the opening game. The win gave them an early 1-0 lead.
More importantly, JiaQi’s strong performance gave IG the confidence they needed for the next game.

Game 2: Wei Takes Control With Qiyana
JDG needed an answer in Game 2. Instead, Wei became the biggest problem for them. The IG jungler picked Qiyana and quickly took control of the map. He constantly appeared at key fights and punished JDG whenever they moved too far forward.
Meanwhile, Rookie continued to provide strong pressure from the mid lane. Because Wei controlled the early tempo, IG could also secure more major objectives. Therefore, JDG were forced to react instead of making their own plays. The pressure kept growing.
IG eventually finished the second game with 20 kills, while JDG had 10. The gold and objective advantages also continued to increase. Wei finished the game with an impressive 5/1/10 KDA. Rookie also played a key role with Aurora. Consequently, IG moved to a commanding 2-0 lead.
At this point, JDG were one loss away from elimination.

Game 3: JDG Fight Back
With their backs against the wall, JDG finally found their answer. JunJia picked Trundle, while GALA received Jinx. This combination gave JDG better scaling and stronger late-game damage.
From the start, JDG played with much more confidence. JunJia became the main force behind their comeback attempt. He controlled key areas around major objectives and helped his team win several important fights. GALA also became more dangerous as the game went on.
Rather than taking unnecessary fights, JDG waited for the right moments. Then, they punished IG’s mistakes with strong team fighting.
After more than 34 minutes, JDG secured the win. They finished the game with 26 kills, compared with 16 for IG. In addition, JDG controlled four dragons and seven towers.
Most importantly, the victory cut the series deficit to 1-2.
Suddenly, a reverse sweep looked possible.

Game 4: Wei and Rookie End JDG’s Comeback
Game 4 was the most important game of the series.
If JDG won, the match would go to a deciding fifth game. On the other hand, IG needed only one more win to qualify for Worlds. IG understood the situation. This time, Wei picked Vi. Rookie, meanwhile, played Ahri.
The combination worked extremely well. Wei used Vi’s ultimate to lock down JDG’s key carries. As a result, GALA and HongQ often had little room to deal damage in team fights.
Rookie also created constant pressure with Ahri. His mobility allowed him to find picks and escape dangerous situations. Meanwhile, Wei continued to start fights for his team. JDG tried to slow the game down. However, IG kept gaining control of the map.
Eventually, the game reached its decisive moment around the major objectives. IG won the key fight and then pushed through the middle lane.
After more than 30 minutes, Invictus Gaming finally closed out Game 4.
The 3-1 victory sent IG to Worlds 2026 and ended JDG’s run.

Rookie Leads IG Back to Worlds
The victory means much more than just another series win for Invictus Gaming.
For Rookie, in particular, the result marks a major return to the biggest stage in League of Legends. The veteran mid laner has spent years competing at the highest level. Now, he will once again represent the LPL at Worlds.
The result is also important for the entire IG roster. TheShy, Wei, Rookie, JiaQi, and Meiko showed strong teamwork when the pressure was at its highest. More importantly, the team recovered quickly after losing to TES. Instead of collapsing, IG fought through the lower bracket.
First, they survived the pressure of the Regional Finals. Then, they defeated JDG when their Worlds hopes were on the line.
Therefore, the 3-1 win is a major achievement for the team.

JD Gaming Miss Worlds 2026
For JD Gaming, however, the result brings a painful end to their 2026 Worlds campaign. JDG had already beaten Team WE to reach the lower-bracket final. However, they could not complete the final step.
The team showed strong resistance in Game 3. Nevertheless, IG quickly shut down the comeback in Game 4. As a result, JDG will not compete at Worlds 2026.
Instead, their attention will now turn to the Demacia Cup. Although missing Worlds is a major disappointment, JDG still have a chance to regroup and prepare for the next stage of the season.
LPL Complete Its Four Worlds 2026 Representatives
Following the JDG vs IG series, the LPL’s Worlds 2026 lineup is now complete.
The four representatives are:
- Anyone’s Legend (AL)

- Bilibili Gaming (BLG)

- Top Esports (TES)

- Invictus Gaming (IG)

Notably, all four LPL teams will start their Worlds 2026 journey in the Swiss Stage. Therefore, IG will not need to play through the Play-In stage. Instead, the team can immediately face some of the world’s strongest teams.
For the LPL, this creates another exciting international challenge. AL, BLG, TES, and IG will now carry the region’s hopes into Worlds 2026.
Final Thoughts
The JDG vs IG series on September 19 delivered everything fans expected from a do-or-die match. JDG fought back after falling 0-2 behind. However, IG refused to lose control of the series. Wei’s jungle pressure, Rookie’s playmaking, and JiaQi’s damage gave IG the edge when it mattered most.
In the end, Invictus Gaming defeated JD Gaming 3-1 and secured the final LPL ticket to Worlds 2026. For Rookie and his teammates, the journey continues. For JDG, the Worlds dream is over.
Now, all eyes turn to Worlds 2026, where Invictus Gaming will once again step onto the biggest stage in League of Legends.
