What Is the Primal Trait in TFT Set 18?

TFT Set 18 introduces the magical world of Enchanted Wilds. It also adds many new traits and champions. Among them, Primal is one of the most exciting.

Unlike many other traits, Primal does not simply give bonus stats. Instead, it lets you choose powerful Blessings during the game. These Blessings improve your team in different ways.

Because of this, Primal fits players who enjoy a flex playstyle. You can change your strategy based on your items, champion rolls, and opponents. As a result, every match feels different.

Moreover, the trait stays useful from the early game to the late game. Therefore, it can fit into many different team compositions.

How Does the Primal Trait Work?

Primal uses a unique Blessing system. First, when you activate the trait, you can choose one of four Blessings. Later, after reaching the next breakpoint, you unlock a second Blessing. Each Blessing gives a different bonus. Therefore, your choices depend on your current board.

For example, you may want more damage in one game. However, you may need more healing or economy in another. Because of this system, Primal is one of the most flexible traits in TFT Set 18.

All Primal Champions

The trait currently includes four champions.

Vi

• Class: Warrior
• Role: Frontline tank

Vi protects your team and starts fights. She becomes even stronger with defensive Blessings.

Sivir

• Class: Hunter
• Role: Physical carry

Sivir deals steady damage throughout the fight. She is also the most common Primal carry.

Nidalee

• Class: Adaptive

Nidalee offers reliable damage. In addition, she works well in many flexible team comps.

Lux

• Class: Demi-God

Lux is the late-game Primal champion. Once you find her, your board becomes much stronger.

The Four Primal Blessings

The Blessings are the heart of the Primal trait. Each one supports a different strategy.

Bear’s Blessing

Bear’s Blessing increases execute damage.

As a result, your team can finish low-health enemies much faster.

This Blessing works best with:

• Sivir Carry
• Nidalee Carry
• Hunter teams

Overall, it is the best option if your team needs more damage.

Turtle’s Blessing

Turtle’s Blessing improves survivability. Every few seconds, Primal champions heal part of their maximum Health. Therefore, your frontline survives much longer.

This Blessing is perfect when:

• Vi is your main tank.
• Your frontline is weak.
• Teamfights last a long time.

In many games, healing provides more value than extra Armor.

Tiger’s Blessing

Tiger’s Blessing boosts Attack Speed. After a short delay, your whole team attacks faster.

Because of that, physical carries deal much more damage.

This Blessing works well with:

• Tristana Reroll
• Sivir Carry
• Physical DPS teams

It is also one of the strongest late-game Blessings.

Phoenix’s Blessing

Phoenix’s Blessing helps your economy. After enough takedowns, your Primal champions earn extra item components. As a result, you can finish your core items sooner.

In addition, this Blessing makes it easier to pivot into stronger late-game boards. If you enjoy flex play, Phoenix’s Blessing is an excellent choice.

When Should You Play Primal?

Primal is not a trait you should force every game.

Instead, play it when you have:

• Good AD items
• An early Sivir
• An early Vi
• Several pivot options

However, if other players are contesting your carry, you can still use the Blessings before switching to another composition.

Therefore, Primal remains useful even when your original plan changes.

Best Primal Team Compositions

Sivir Carry

This is the most popular Primal composition. Sivir deals damage from the backline. Meanwhile, Vi protects the team in front.

Recommended Blessings:

• Bear’s Blessing
• Tiger’s Blessing

Recommended Items:

• Guinsoo’s Rageblade
• Infinity Edge
• Last Whisper

Together, these items allow Sivir to scale into the late game.

Tristana Reroll

Tristana is not a Primal champion. However, she uses Tiger’s Blessing very well.

The extra Attack Speed helps her deal constant damage. Therefore, this team is a great option if you find many Tristanas early.

Four-Primal Flex

This team shows the true strength of the trait. Instead of relying on one carry, you adjust your board every game. Then, choose the two Blessings that fit your situation. Finally, add Lux in the late game for a huge power spike.

Because of its flexibility, this composition performs well in many lobbies.

Tips for Playing Primal

Keep these tips in mind:

• Stay flexible.
• Do not force one composition.
• Choose Blessings based on your board.
• Build economy with Phoenix’s Blessing.
• Roll only after getting key items.
• Pivot if your carry is heavily contested.

Following these tips will improve your results with the trait.

Is Primal Worth Playing?

Yes. Primal rewards smart decisions instead of simple stat stacking. Moreover, every Blessing opens a different strategy.

Because of that, the trait works in many situations. Whether you prefer Sivir Carry, Tristana Reroll, or a Level 9 flex board, Primal has a place in your game plan.

Final Thoughts

Primal is one of the most creative traits in TFT Set 18. Its Blessing system gives players many ways to build a winning board. Furthermore, it rewards quick thinking and good decision-making. Every game feels different because your Blessings, items, and champions change. If you enjoy flexible gameplay, Primal is one of the best traits to learn in the new set.
