Croatia Advance After Ghana Win at World Cup 2026

Croatia defeated Ghana 2-1 in their final Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The victory secured second place for Croatia and a ticket to the Round of 32. Meanwhile, Ghana also advanced despite the defeat. In contrast, South Korea moved closer to elimination after the result.

As a result, Ghana attacked with greater confidence. Ernest Nuamah became more involved, while Mohammed Kudus looked for openings around the penalty area.

Even so, Croatia defended well. The experienced back line stayed compact and limited dangerous chances.

Eventually, Ghana found an equalizer in the 73rd minute. Ernest Nuamah delivered a dangerous free kick into the box. Derrick Luckassen reacted quickly and scored from close range.

Croatia respond quickly

Croatia did not lose confidence after conceding. Instead, the team regained control of possession. They patiently searched for another chance.

Their winning goal came in the 83rd minute. Luka Modric delivered a perfect corner kick into the penalty area. Nikola Vlasic jumped highest and headed the ball into the net.

The victory lifted Croatia to second place in Group L with six points. England finished first with seven points.

Meanwhile, Ghana ended the group stage with four points. Even though they lost, they still qualified for the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams.

As a result, Croatia will face the runner-up from Group K. Ghana, meanwhile, will play the winner of the same group.

Modric leads by example

Luka Modric once again proved why he remains Croatia’s leader. Although he did not score, he controlled the game from midfield. In addition, he created several chances and provided the winning assist.

Ghana can still be proud

Croatia’s victory also affected South Korea. Ghana’s four-point total made the race among the best third-placed teams much tighter.

South Korea currently have only three points and a goal difference of -1. As a result, they are close to elimination.
