Colombia earned a tense 1-0 win over DR Congo in Group K of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The match was close and full of pressure. However, Daniel Munoz scored the only goal in the 76th minute to give Colombia a vital victory.
As a result, Colombia now have six points after two matches. They have also secured a place in the knockout stage. More importantly, they sit above Portugal in Group K. Therefore, Colombia only need a draw against Portugal in the final group match to finish first.

Colombia Start Fast but Miss Early Chances
Colombia began the match with great energy. They pushed high and attacked from the first minute. However, DR Congo stayed compact and defended with great focus.
In the sixth minute, Daniel Munoz thought he had scored. He headed the ball into the net after a rebound. However, the goal was ruled out for offside.
Colombia kept attacking after that. James Rodriguez then tried a strong shot from distance. Still, the DR Congo goalkeeper made a fine save.
Soon after, Luis Diaz also had a big chance inside the box. However, his low shot went straight at the goalkeeper. Therefore, Colombia could not turn their pressure into a goal.

DR Congo Defend with Discipline
DR Congo spent most of the first half under pressure. Even so, they stayed calm and organized. Their defense closed the spaces well. In addition, their goalkeeper made several key saves.
Colombia controlled the ball for long spells. However, they struggled to break through the African side’s defense. As a result, the first half ended 0-0.
It was a frustrating half for Colombia. They had more chances, but they lacked the final touch.

Colombia Make Changes in the Second Half
After the break, Colombia kept pushing forward. They needed more speed and power in attack. Therefore, coach Nestor Lorenzo made changes.
Juan Quintero and Jhon Cordoba came on to refresh the attack. As a result, Colombia started to move the ball faster. They also created more danger near the DR Congo box.
In the 50th minute, Luis Diaz had another good chance. However, he could not beat the goalkeeper. Jhon Arias then fired the rebound wide.
At this point, DR Congo were still holding on. However, Colombia did not stop pressing.

The breakthrough finally came in the 76th minute. Daniel Munoz took a shot inside the box. The ball hit a DR Congo defender and changed direction. Because of that deflection, the goalkeeper could not react in time.
Colombia took a 1-0 lead, and the fans celebrated wildly. It was not the cleanest goal. However, it was exactly what Colombia needed.
After the goal, Colombia continued to attack. Luis Diaz put the ball into the net twice. However, both goals were ruled out for offside.
Even so, Colombia stayed in control for most of the closing minutes.

DR Congo Push Late but Fall Short
DR Congo did not give up. In the final minutes, they pushed more players forward. They tried to find a late equalizer.
Their best chance came in the 90th minute. Nathanael Mbuku fired a dangerous shot. However, Colombia’s goalkeeper made a strong save to keep the lead.
After that, Colombia defended with focus. Finally, the referee blew the whistle, and Colombia sealed a narrow 1-0 win.

Colombia Take Control of Group K
This result is huge for Colombia. They now have six points from two matches. Therefore, they are already through to the knockout stage of the World Cup 2026.
Colombia also lead Portugal by two points. Because of this, a draw in the final group match will be enough for Colombia to win Group K.
Meanwhile, Portugal must beat Colombia if they want to finish first.
For DR Congo, the defeat is painful. However, their hopes are not over. They can still qualify if they beat Uzbekistan in their final group game.
