Kha Y Tran England missed the chance to reach the next round early after a 0-0 draw with Ghana in Group L of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Three Lions had more of the ball at Boston Stadium. However, they could not break down Ghana’s strong defense.

England Control the Game
England came into the match with high hopes. They had beaten Croatia 4-2 in their first game. Therefore, many fans expected another win.
From the start, England kept the ball well. Jude Bellingham looked calm in midfield. Also, Noni Madueke caused problems on the right wing.
However, Ghana stayed compact. They defended deep and gave England very little space. As a result, clear chances were hard to find.
Kane Struggles for Space
Harry Kane had a quiet match. Ghana marked him closely for most of the game. Because of that, the England captain rarely got a clean chance in the box.
Anthony Gordon also found it hard to create danger. Meanwhile, Bellingham tried to push England forward. Still, Ghana’s back line stayed strong.
England’s best first-half chance came when O’Reilly got into the box. He fired from close range, but Lawrence Asare made a fine save.
Soon after, Kane sent a header just wide. Even so, England went into halftime without a goal.

Tuchel Turns to the Bench
After the break, Thomas Tuchel made changes. He brought on Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze, and Morgan Rogers.
Saka added more speed on the right. Rashford also tried to cut inside from the left. However, Ghana did not panic.
Thomas Partey helped protect the defense. In addition, Ghana’s back line stayed focused. So, England kept pushing but still could not score.

Ghana Almost Steal It Late
Ghana also had a big moment near the end. In the 88th minute, Prince Kwabena Adu clashed with Jordan Pickford in the box.
Ghana asked for a penalty. However, the referee said Adu had fouled Pickford first. VAR checked the play and kept the decision.
After that, neither team found a winner.

A Big Point for Ghana
England had more possession and more shots. Yet, most of their efforts did not trouble Ghana’s goal.
Ghana, meanwhile, showed great discipline. They defended as a team and stayed calm under pressure. Because of that, they earned a valuable point.

Group L Remains Open
England still have a good chance to finish top of Group L. However, they missed the chance to qualify early.
Ghana, on the other hand, kept their knockout hopes alive. This result also proved they can compete with stronger teams.
Although the match had no goals, it still told an important story. England had control, but Ghana had the plan. In the end, discipline beat pressure.
