The movie became a huge success in Japan. It opened during the 30th anniversary of the Detective Conan TV anime. Because of this, fan excitement was extremely high.
The film earned about 3.5 billion yen in its first three days. This became the biggest opening weekend in the history of the Conan movie series.
Later, total earnings passed 13.5 billion yen. As a result, the movie entered the top four highest-grossing Conan films. It also became one of Japan’s biggest movies of 2026.
Story Overview
The story takes place in Kanagawa Prefecture. Conan, Ran, Kogoro Mori, and Sonoko visit the Moto Kanagawa Festival. During the event, a new motorcycle called Angel is introduced.
However, the celebration does not last long. A mysterious black motorcycle called Lucifer appears. Soon after, several crimes happen on the highway. The police believe Lucifer is connected to every case.
Chihaya Hagiwara begins chasing the rider. However, every attempt ends in failure. Conan joins the investigation. Together, they discover a much larger conspiracy that could threaten many lives.
Chihaya Hagiwara Steals the Spotlight
One of the biggest surprises is the choice of main character. Instead of focusing on Heiji, Kaito Kid, or Amuro, the movie gives the spotlight to Chihaya Hagiwara. She first appeared in the manga in 2021. Even so, she quickly became popular with fans.
Chihaya is brave, confident, and an excellent motorcycle rider. She also has emotional ties to Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda. Because of this, her story feels meaningful.
The movie also includes several flashbacks. These scenes connect to the popular Police Academy storyline.
Action Is the Movie’s Biggest Strength
The action begins almost immediately. Motorcycle chases appear throughout the movie. High-speed races on the highway keep the pace fast. In addition, the animation looks excellent.
The camera work is smooth. Explosions are exciting. The racing scenes are easy to follow.
As a result, the movie feels like a Hollywood action blockbuster. Fans who enjoy exciting chase scenes will probably have a great time.
The Mystery Is Too Easy
Unfortunately, the mystery is not as strong. The movie has three storylines. However, the main case is quite simple.
Longtime Conan fans may guess the culprit early. In addition, several twists do not feel surprising. The investigation never becomes very complicated. Instead, the movie quickly returns to action scenes.
Because of this, detective fans may feel slightly disappointed.
Too Many Characters
The movie also includes many familiar faces. Sonoko, Sera, Kogoro Mori, and the Detective Boys all appear. However, most of them have very little to do. Many characters only appear for a few minutes. Then they disappear again.
As a result, the story sometimes feels crowded. Giving fewer characters more screen time would have improved the movie.
Final Verdict
Conan Movie 29: Fallen Angel on the Highway is not the franchise’s best mystery. However, it succeeds as a fun action movie.
The motorcycle chases are exciting. The animation is beautiful. Chihaya Hagiwara is also an excellent new lead.
The detective story is simple, and some supporting characters feel unnecessary. Even so, the movie remains entertaining from beginning to end.
